Nebolink is a physical device that can be purchased and installed on your boat.

The nebolink enables:

  • completely automated voyage logging. When your boat moves and when your boat stops the nebolink knows and records it, automatically. No more using your phone and tapping buttons
  • monitoring the voltage of your boat's battery near real time remotely via the nebo app
  • greater security as the nebolink makes tracking after theft or natural disaster possible.

This is all possible due to leading edge Integrated systems, GPS, accelerometer and mobile networking.

Yes, but not at all times.

The nebolink can log and store voyage data without cell phone tower signal for approximately 2 weeks (or even more) depending on usage.

However, this data will not be visible in the nebo app untill you are back within range of cell phone tower signal. It is when the nebolink reconnects to the network that your voyages are automatically uploaded to the nebo servers. They are then available to the nebo app for automatic download, and the app will show them in My Locker > Logs.

Also, when the nebolink has no connection to the network, your boat will be shown to others as stationary in its last known position i.e. where it lost cell phone tower signal.

In summary, the nebolink will function as designed, but there will be no updates to what you see on the nebo app untill you are back within range of cell tower signal.

If you have a nebolink installed on your boat, you will now need to connect the device to your nebo boat in the app.

You will need your nebolink's serial number.

Please find the serial number on a sticker in 3 places: underneath the housing of the nebolink, also on the nebolink circuit board and also on the box (packaging).

In the nebo app:

  • Go to MY LOCKER > BOATS
  • TAP on your boat's name
  • Scroll down to the Nebolink section
  • Tap ADD NEBOLINK
  • Enter your nebolink serial number in the field provided
  • If the trailer boat setting is applicable to you, then check that box (optional)
  • Tap PAIR DEVICE
  • Other check boxes and settings can be set or ignored for now.
  • Tap CONFIRM
  • Tap SAVE BOAT

If you have a nebolink installed, you are able to set up a low battery (low voltage) alert for your boat's battery.

If this alert is active, an email will be sent to the skipper's email address when your boat's battery voltage drops below a threshold.

  • Go to MY LOCKER > BOATS
  • TAP on your boat's name
  • Scroll down to the Nebolink section
  • Tap DETAILS
  • You will also see a checkbox next to "Alert me if external voltage drops below a threshold".
  • Check this box
  • Tap the "Alert threshold" field and enter the voltage at which you want to recieve the email alert
  • Tap CONFIRM
  • Tap SAVE BOAT

You are using a nebolink device on your boat, but now you want to revert back to app-only manual logging.

Why? Perhaps you have sold your boat. Or maybe you are in certain parts of the world that do not have modern communications infrastructure.

  • Go to MY LOCKER > BOATS
  • TAP on your boat's name
  • Scroll down to the Nebolink section
  • Tap DETAILS
  • Towards the bottom right you will see REMOVE NEBOLINK in red text
  • Tap REMOVE NEBOLINK
  • Tap YES
  • Tap SAVE BOAT

Please see the FAQ: Nebolink > How do I remove the nebolink from my nebo boat

Your nebolink contains an accelerometer that is used to detect movement and to start logging a voyage.

In some cases the accelerometer may be slow to detect movement, resulting in late voyage starts.

In these cases a solution is to connect the white wire to a DC circuit that is live only when your boat is underway.  Your nebolink will detect voltage on that circuit and start logging a voyage.  It will stop logging when the circuit is no longer live.

If you are experiencing late voyage starts, you may want to consider connecting the white wire to:

  • A tachometer (as it will be ‘live’ when the engines are running – don not use this option if you have a sailing vessel!)
  • A switch that powers your instruments (or some other switch you always use when you get underway)

IMPORTANT:

There is no need to connect the white wire unless you are experiencing late voyage starts.

The white wire does not provide power to your nebolink.

Never connect the white wire to the same circuit as the red & black wires that provide the nebolink with power.

The nebolink has more external wires than just the red, black and white. However, only the redblack and white wires are useable at this time.

All of the other wires should be considered redundant for now. They can simply be ignored or taped up for protection.

The red and black wires are required to supply power the the nebolink.

The white wire is optional. For more info on the white wire read FAQ: NebolinkAlternative voyage start detection (white wire)

Approximately 50mA when moving.

Approximately 60mA while the internal battery is charging (1100mAh LiPo internal backup battery pack).

The nebolink has intelligent power management and the device enters sleep mode when boat is inactive to prevent battery drain. The sleep mode current is less than 1mA.

Nebo link subscriptions can be suspended for any amount of time and restarted with a few clicks on our website nebo.global

Suspending or cancelling stops any further payments but your nebolink will be switched off on the nebo system.

The nebolink will not be able to log voyages until we switch it back on - switching it back on can take up to 48 hours.

  • Tap/click My Account or Login at the top right on the navbar on our website nebo.global

  • Canada
  • Europe
  • UK
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • South Africa
  • Brazil
  • Argentina

Unfortunately, nebolink does not work in The Caribbean, including The Bahamas, nor Mexico. Due to the IoT communications infrastucture in these countries not being compatible (yet).

Unfortunately, nebolink does not work in The Caribbean, including The Bahamas. Due to the IoT communications infrastucture in these countries not being compatible (yet).

You have two options while in The Bahamas and the rest of the Caribbean.

1. Switch to manual voyage logging

This is done by removing the nebolink's details from your boat's profile in the app.

You should do this before you begin your Bahamas voyage.

Now you will log voyages manually on the app, as if there were no nebolink on your boat.

For a guide on how to do this, see the FAQ:
Nebolink > How do I remove the nebolink from my nebo boat

2. Continue with nebolink offline

A nebolink can collect and store voyage data for up to two weeks - even without cell tower connectivity.

So if you are only in the Bahamas for two weeks the nebolink can store your Bahamas voyage data and will upload all of it when you return to the US (when the nebolink establishes a network connection).

This has been done successfully in the past, although it is not completely risk free.

A downside to this is that while you are in the Bahamas your position on the nebo map will be fixed somewhere off the coast of the US. This will be the point at which you lost cell phone tower network connection.

Please note: Starlink cannot prevent the nebolink device from going offline in The Caribbean.  The nebolink connects to the internet via cell tower signal only, it can not use the local area network created by Starlink.

This is for the latest model nebolink, which we are currently shipping.

  • Make any changes that are required such as editing the text fields or replacing the profile picture.
  • Scroll to the bottom of of the screen and tap SAVE PROFILE

Share your location with fellow boaters or anyone left behind on land.

If you want someone to follow your location you there are two ways:

1. If they have the nebo app - they can just open the app, tap the search icon on the lower right of the screen, type in your boat name or account name and they will see where you are on the nebo map.

2. If the friend does not have the nebo app - you send them the Track Me link:

  • Go to My locker > Profile
  • Tap TRACK ME
  • Tap SHARE MY LOCATION
  • Your device will ask you to choose which method you would like to use to send out this link
  • Tap the chosen method
  • The associated app should open

The rest of the process will be specific to the method/app you have chosen to send out the Track Me link

When the friend receives the link they will be able to click on the link and see a webpage with a map that has just your boat on it.

If you are “underway” they will see your current position, otherwise they will see the position where your last voyage ended.

Try sending the link to yourself and clicking on it.

PLEASE NOTE: Your location will not be updated if you do not have a cellular data connection.

We strongly recommend you do not use this option if you are cruising as a couple because you will end up with voyage logs in one account, but not the other.

Also, with multiple skippers you will be required to claim each voyage - a boat with one skipper does not need to claim it, the voyage log is received automatically.

For couples, it is best to sign into the same account, using email and password sign in (not Google, Apple or Facebook) and add one of you as a crew member.

This feature is not intended for couples on the same boat.

If two or more completely separate entities, which take the boat out independently of each other, share a boat sometimes it is necessary to add multiple skippers to a boat.

If each skipper uses Nebo, your Monthly Report will have a section for each skipper, showing their hours, distance traveled etc.

In order for Nebo to correctly report on shared usage, it’s important that your vessel is ‘created’ in Nebo only once. Additional skippers can then be registered to that boat.

Let us presume you have added the vessel to Nebo, and that you now want to add a new skipper.

  • First, ask the new skipper to create an account in Nebo (if they do not have one already) but to skip the boat registration step.
  • When they have done that, you must go to My Locker > Boats
  • You will see your boat in the list. If you don’t, you can add your boat by tapping + ADD BOAT
  • To add the additional skipper, tap on your boat name, scroll down until you see MANAGE SKIPPERS
  • Tap MANAGE SKIPPERS
  • Next, type into the search bar to find the nebo community members you want to add as skippers.
  • Tap the circle beside their names to select them
  • Tap CONFIRM USERS

That is it. When the new skipper restarts Nebo, they will be able to start a voyage using your boat, and you will both receive a monthly report detailing boat usage.

Standby and Underway

There are several reasons your boat may not be visible on the map, or not showing up in nebo search results.

NOTEthese points do not apply to boats with a nebolink device. Nebolink boats will normally always show on the map.

  • If you have created a new boat, you will not appear on the map until you have completed a voyage that ends on water
  • If your last voyage ended on land you wil be removed from the map
  • If your last voyage was completed more that 30 days ago, you will be removed from the map. This is to prevent unused boats from pollutiing the map.

To see details of other boats on Nebo:

  • Go to Standby
  • Tap on any boat icon to see more details
  • From here you can see the boat name, skippers name and if the boat is underway etc
  • Also displayed are basic boat details and the last time their position was updated on Nebo
  • You can also send the boat a private message

PLEASE NOTE: you will not see boat details if the boat’s skipper has set their profile to Private and you are not their Nebo Friend.

Once you have started a voyage, the “Standby” screen becomes the “Underway” screen.

When underway, your boat icon will change from a white dot to a blue boat.

When you are underway, you will no longer see the name tag and burgee on your boat. But all others in the community will still see this info (if you have not chosen the Private setting).

  • Tap the three horizontal dots
  • Tap Add as default
  • A star will appear behind this crew member’s name, indicating that they have been added as a default crew member
  • Add other crew members if you wish
  • Tap CONFIRM CREW

Whether you START VOYAGE now or not, this crew member will be saved to your default crew member list.

You can remove default crew per voyage or permanently.

Remove them per voyage:

  • Tap PREPARE FOR VOYAGE
  • Tap MANAGE CREW
  • Tap the checkbox next to the default crew member’s name to not add them for this voyage

OR to remove them from the default list permanently:

  • Tap the three horizontal dots
  • Tap Add as default
  • The star will be removed from behind this crew member’s name, indicating that they are no longer a default crew member
  • Tap the checkbox to remove them from this specific voyage

Chat

On the nebo app, at the bottom of the Standby screen:

  • Tap the Chat icon
  • Tap NEW CHAT
  • At the top of the screen in the Search field, type the name of a Skipper you want to include in your group chat
  • When you see this skipper’s name appear in the suggested list, check the checkbox next to their name
  • This skipper will be added to the chat members list
  • Back in the Search field, enter the name of another skipper
  • When you see this second skipper’s name appear in the suggested list, check the checkbox next to their name
  • This second skipper’s name will also be added to the chat members list
  • Continue adding members to the chat until you have your complete group
  • Tap START CHAT
  • Enter your first message into the message field at the bottom of the screen and press the “paper plane” send icon
  • All members of the group will see this message
  • All members will be able to contribute to that chat

Logs and Voyages

  • On the standby screen (this is the screen with the map) tap the PREPARE FOR VOYAGE button
  • You will now see the "Set up voyage" screen
  • If you have only one boat it will be chosen by default, if you have more than one, you will need to choose your boat from the dropdown menu
  • Managing crew is optional here. If you usually have the same crew members on your boat, see our FAQ: Prepare for Voyage > How to add default crew
  • Tap START VOYAGE
  • The voyage will begin logging
  • The "Standby" screen is now the "Underway" screen
  • You will notice that your boat icon has changed from a white dot to a blue boat
  • There will now be a voyage status bar at the top of the screen giving Speed, Time and Distance. Tap the down arrow on the status bar to expand the bar to see more details and options
  • To complete the voyage you must tap STOP VOYAGE
  • After tapping STOP VOYAGE your voyage is paused
  • You can now name your voyage, or keep the voyage name that has been automatically generated for you.
  • You can chose your boat status from the dropdown menu
  • You can also choose the share this voyage to Feed, where your nebo friends (only) can see it, by leaving the check box as it is. To keep the voyage private from your nebo friends, uncheck the "Add this voyage to feed" checkbox
  • Tap SAVE VOYAGE

If you have internet connectivity at the time of saving on your device, you should soon see this voyage appear in My Locker > Logs. If you also chose to share it with your friends it will now also be visible in Feed.

If your voyage summary PDF email did not arrive automatically, or you have lost it, you can have the email resent:

  • Go to My Locker > Logs
  • Scroll to the to a blue section with date and boat name of the summary you wish to have resent (voyage summary PDFs are available for each day, not each voyage)
  • Tap the three vertical dots next to the date and boat name
  • Tap "Email report"

The email should arrive in your email inbox shortly after that.

You can make your own weather notes in your log, these observations can be added or edited.

Nebo’s weather is sourced from one of the most accurate third-party sources of hyperlocal weather information. However, it is sometimes nice to be able to add real-time local conditions.

If you would like to edit or add your own weather information, here’s how:

  • At the top of the “Underway” screen, on the voyage details card, you will see three vertical dots.
  • Tap the three vertical dots
  • Tap ADD LOG to add your own custom entry to the log
  • Check the check box for “Include weather report in the entry”
  • Edit the auto-populated weather and/or add your own weather observations.
  • Tap SAVE LOG ENTRY and your weather notes are recorded and you are taken back to the map screen.

When the friend receives the link they will be able to click on the link and see a webpage with a map that has just your boat on it.

If you are “underway” they will see your current position, otherwise they will see the position where your last voyage ended.

Try sending the link to yourself and clicking on it.

PLEASE NOTE: Your location won’t be updated if you don’t have a cellular data connection.

Once you have completed a voyage and clicked STOP VOYAGE (or your nebolink has stopped your voyage automatically), your voyage will be saved into My Locker > Logs. To review your logs in the app simply go to:

  • My Locker > Logs
  • You can then scroll down to see all of your logs.
  • Simply click on the title of any of these logs to see more detail.
  • If you would like to share any of these logs, click on the three horizontal dots to the right of the voyage date then tap Share.

NOTE: You will also be emailed your PDF log each day.

If a nebo community member accepts a friend request from you, or vice versa, you will be able to share your voyages and photos with them. This sharing can happen automatically, or you can choose what and when to share.

1. Find and connect with friends who are already using Nebo:

If you know your friends are already using Nebo, this is the easiest way to find and connect with them:

  • Feed > Friends
  • Tap the + ADD icon in the lower right corner.
  • Near the top you will see a search bar. Here you can type in a skipper’s name on your keypad. Nebo will list results and you can REQUEST the fellow Nebo user to be your friend by tapping ADD next to their name.
  • They will receive a notification to accept your request.

2. Find and connect with friends in Nebo via your phone contacts:

  • Feed > Friends
  • Tap the + ADD icon in the lower right corner.
  • Tap on ‘Contacts’ to bring up a list of your phone contacts. NOTE: the first time you do this you will need to grant the nebo app permission.
  • Scroll through to find your boating friends and click INVITE next to their name. This will open up an email which is pre-populated with information about Nebo and the app download link. You can change and edit this information or simply hit ‘Send’ to invite your friends to download Nebo.
  • They will receive the email request and download Nebo. You can then search for and friend them using Option 1 above.
  • If they are already using Nebo, you’ll see ADD rather than INVITE.  Tapping ADD will send them a friend request within Nebo.

Nebo has made it even easier to quickly and easily share your boating highlights with your fellow boating friends. To share an experience with your friends:

  • Go to Feed >
  • Then click in the top box ‘Share your experience…’ to add your text and / or add a photo by clicking on ADD PHOTO.
  • Click on SHARE POST and you’re done.

Note: Anything you post here will be shared only with people that you have ‘friended’ on Nebo. They will see this when they click on their Feed in Nebo.

Here is how to easily see details of other boats on Nebo, simply go to:

  • Go to Standby >
  • Click on any boat icon.
  • From here you can see the boat name, skipper’s name and if the boat is underway, on a mooring etc.
  • Also displayed are basic boat details and the last time their position was updated on Nebo.
  • You can also send the boat a private message.

Note that you will not see boat or skipper details if the skipper has chosen to keep them Private.

Use the magnify glass icon at the lower right of the Standby screen to search for boats or Nebo community members.

The Nebo Feed is where information you share gets posted. Here is how to view Nebo’s Feed.

  • Click on Feed
  • Here you can scroll through all of your and your Nebo friends’ posts.
  • You can like and / or leave a comment on these posts.
  • Your voyages and photos are only shared with Nebo users you’ve specifically ‘friended’. Your posts do not get shared to their friends, unless they are also your friend.
  • You can also decide not to share particular voyages and photos at any time.
  • You can share a comment, voyage or photo.
  • Click on Feed
  • Tap in the field at the top that says “Share your experience…”
  • Here you can simply type in some text or add a photo, or both.
  • To add a photo, tap ADD PHOTO, choose Camera or Gallery. If you choose Camera the camera app will open. You can take a new photo or choose one from the gallery.
  • Tap SHARE POST

You may not want all your nebo friends to see a photo that you are saving to a log.

To add a photo while underway and not add it to Feed, on the voyage details card at top of the screen:

  • Tap on the three vertical dots
  • Tap either “Camera” or “Gallery”
  • Either take a photo or select one from the gallery
  • Uncheck the checkbox for “Share on feed”

This will still include the photo in your log and the voyage summary PDF that is emailed to you, but the photo will not show up to your friends in Feed.

If you have saved a photo or a log with the ‘Share to Feed’ function ON but now want to remove this from the feed, follow these steps to remove a log or photo you have already shared to Feed:

  • Go to My Locker > Logs
  • Scroll to the Photo or Log you wish to remove/hide from the Feed.
  • Tap the three vertical dots
  • Tap “Hide”. This will remove the visibility of this log or photo from the Feed. You will still have this log or photo stored in your ‘My Logs’ but it will no longer be visible on the Nebo feed (ie: to anyone you have ‘friended’ on Nebo).

PLEASE NOTE, if the item is a photo you also have the option to delete it:

  • Tap “Delete” this will remove the photo completely from nebo

To like or comment on your friends’ voyages:

  • Click on Feed from the bottom menu
  • To like or comment on your friends’ voyages, photos or posts, scroll to the relevant item and tap the like icon to like, or tap on the comment link to write a comment.

Nebo’s Feed is where information you share gets posted. When you save a voyage it will automatically be posted to the Nebo feed (unless you turn this function OFF). Here is how to turn this function off to hide your logs and photos from the Nebo feed:

  • When you are underway and want to finish your voyage, tap STOP VOYAGE
  • At the top of the screen you will see a voyage status card
  • Uncheck the “Add this voyage to feed” checkbox

To not post your photo to Feed see the FAQ: How to take a photo & save it but not share it to the Nebo Feed.

PLEASE NOTE: your voyages and photos are only shared with Nebo users you’ve specifically ‘friended’. Your posts do not get shared to their friends, unless they are also your friends.

Deleting a voyage is helpful when you have run some ‘test’ voyages or if you simply do not want to keep a particular voyage log for any reason.

To delete a voyage, go to:

  • My Locker > Logs
  • Tap the voyage you would like to delete, this will bring up details of that voyage.
  • At the top right, tap the trash can icon
  • Tap DELETE

If you no longer want to interact with another Nebo user you can unfriend them.

  • Go to Feed > Friends
  • You will see a list of your Friends, tap on the three horizontal dots
  • Tap on the “Remove from friends” option

This person will not know you have unfriended them.

It is not possible to remove or hide other people’s individual voyages, photos or posts from Feed, but it is possible to remove a person from your friends list and therefore no longer see items in the Feed from them.

To unfriend someone see the FAQ: How to unfriend someone in Nebo

  • The Track Me link
  • Messaging

Settings

  • Go to My Locker > Cog Icon (Settings)
  • Here you can individually select units for: speed, distance, short distance and temperature
  • Tap SAVE SETTINGS

Some mobile devices have aggressive battery conservation techniques that will force Nebo to sleep in the background, thereby creating a gap in your voyage log. It might be possible for you to adjust these settings on your device’s operating system.

  • Go to My Locker > Cog Icon (Settings)
  • Tap on How to keep Nebo running in the background to see relevant information
