Â
Yes, but not at all times.Â
The nebolink can log and store voyage data without cell phone tower signal for approximately 2 weeks (or even more) depending on usage.Â
However, this data will not be visible in the nebo app untill you are back within range of cell phone tower signal. It is when the nebolink reconnects to the network that your voyages are automatically uploaded to the nebo servers. They are then available to the nebo app for automatic download, and the app will show them in My Locker > Logs.
Also, when the nebolink has no connection to the network, your boat will be shown to others as stationary in its last known position i.e. where it lost cell phone tower signal.
In summary, the nebolink will function as designed, but there will be no updates to what you see on the nebo app untill you are back within range of cell tower signal.
If you have a nebolink installed on your boat, you will now need to connect the device to your nebo boat in the app.
You will need your nebolink's serial number.
Please find the serial number on a sticker in 3 places: underneath the housing of the nebolink, also on the nebolink circuit board and also on the box (packaging).
In the nebo app:
- Go to MY LOCKER > BOATSÂ
- TAP on your boat's name
- Scroll down to the Nebolink section
- Tap ADD NEBOLINK
- Enter your nebolink serial number in the field provided
- If the trailer boat setting is applicable to you, then check that box (optional)
- Tap PAIR DEVICE
- Other check boxes and settings can be set or ignored for now.
- Tap CONFIRM
- Tap SAVE BOAT
If you have a nebolink installed, you are able to set up a low battery (low voltage) alert for your boat's battery.
If this alert is active, an email will be sent to the skipper's email address when your boat's battery voltage drops below a threshold.Â
- Go to MY LOCKER > BOATSÂ
- TAP on your boat's name
- Scroll down to the Nebolink section
- Tap DETAILS
- You will also see a checkbox next to "Alert me if external voltage drops below a threshold".
- Check this box
- Tap the "Alert threshold" field and enter the voltage at which you want to recieve the email alert
- Tap CONFIRM
- Tap SAVE BOAT
You are using a nebolink device on your boat, but now you want to revert back to app-only manual logging.
Why? Perhaps you have sold your boat. Or maybe you are in certain parts of the world that do not have modern communications infrastructure. Â
- Go to MY LOCKER > BOATSÂ
- TAP on your boat's name
- Scroll down to the Nebolink section
- Tap DETAILS
- Towards the bottom right you will see REMOVE NEBOLINK in red text
- Tap REMOVE NEBOLINK
- Tap YES
- Tap SAVE BOAT
Please see the FAQ: Nebolink >Â How do I remove the nebolink from my nebo boat
Your nebolink contains an accelerometer that is used to detect movement and to start logging a voyage.
In some cases the accelerometer may be slow to detect movement, resulting in late voyage starts.
In these cases a solution is to connect the white wire to a DC circuit that is live only when your boat is underway. Your nebolink will detect voltage on that circuit and start logging a voyage. It will stop logging when the circuit is no longer live.
If you are experiencing late voyage starts, you may want to consider connecting the white wire to:
- A tachometer (as it will be âliveâ when the engines are running â don not use this option if you have a sailing vessel!)
- A switch that powers your instruments (or some other switch you always use when you get underway)
Â
IMPORTANT:
There is no need to connect the white wire unless you are experiencing late voyage starts.
The white wire does not provide power to your nebolink.
Never connect the white wire to the same circuit as the red & black wires that provide the nebolink with power.
The nebolink has more external wires than just the red, black and white. However, only the red, black and white wires are useable at this time.Â
All of the other wires should be considered redundant for now. They can simply be ignored or taped up for protection.
The red and black wires are required to supply power the the nebolink.
The white wire is optional. For more info on the white wire read FAQ: Nebolink >Â Alternative voyage start detection (white wire)
Approximately 50mA when moving.
Approximately 60mA while the internal battery is charging (1100mAh LiPo internal backup battery pack).
The nebolink has intelligent power management and the device enters sleep mode when boat is inactive to prevent battery drain. The sleep mode current is less than 1mA.
Nebo link subscriptions can be suspended for any amount of time and restarted with a few clicks on our website nebo.global
Suspending or cancelling stops any further payments but your nebolink will be switched off on the nebo system.
The nebolink will not be able to log voyages until we switch it back on - switching it back on can take up to 48 hours.

Unfortunately, nebolink does not work in The Caribbean, including The Bahamas, nor Mexico. Due to the IoT communications infrastucture in these countries not being compatible (yet).
Unfortunately, nebolink does not work in The Caribbean, including The Bahamas. Due to the IoT communications infrastucture in these countries not being compatible (yet).
You have two options while in The Bahamas and the rest of the Caribbean.
Â
1. Switch to manual voyage loggingÂ
This is done by removing the nebolink's details from your boat's profile in the app.
You should do this before you begin your Bahamas voyage.
Now you will log voyages manually on the app, as if there were no nebolink on your boat.
For a guide on how to do this, see the FAQ:Â
Nebolink > How do I remove the nebolink from my nebo boat
Â
2. Continue with nebolink offline
A nebolink can collect and store voyage data for up to two weeks - even without cell tower connectivity.
So if you are only in the Bahamas for two weeks the nebolink can store your Bahamas voyage data and will upload all of it when you return to the US (when the nebolink establishes a network connection).
This has been done successfully in the past, although it is not completely risk free.
A downside to this is that while you are in the Bahamas your position on the nebo map will be fixed somewhere off the coast of the US. This will be the point at which you lost cell phone tower network connection.
Â
Please note: Starlink cannot prevent the nebolink device from going offline in The Caribbean. The nebolink connects to the internet via cell tower signal only, it can not use the local area network created by Starlink.
This is for the latest model nebolink, which we are currently shipping.Â

Share your location with fellow boaters or anyone left behind on land.
If you want someone to follow your location you there are two ways:
1. If they have the nebo app - they can just open the app, tap the search icon on the lower right of the screen, type in your boat name or account name and they will see where you are on the nebo map.
2. If the friend does not have the nebo app - you send them the Track Me link:
- Go to My locker > Profile
- Tap TRACK ME
- Tap SHARE MY LOCATION
- Your device will ask you to choose which method you would like to use to send out this link
- Tap the chosen method
- The associated app should open
The rest of the process will be specific to the method/app you have chosen to send out the Track Me link
When the friend receives the link they will be able to click on the link and see a webpage with a map that has just your boat on it.
If you are âunderwayâ they will see your current position, otherwise they will see the position where your last voyage ended.
Try sending the link to yourself and clicking on it.
PLEASE NOTE: Your location will not be updated if you do not have a cellular data connection.
We strongly recommend you do not use this option if you are cruising as a couple because you will end up with voyage logs in one account, but not the other.Â
Also, with multiple skippers you will be required to claim each voyage - a boat with one skipper does not need to claim it, the voyage log is received automatically.
For couples, it is best to sign into the same account, using email and password sign in (not Google, Apple or Facebook)Â and add one of you as a crew member.
This feature is not intended for couples on the same boat.
If two or more completely separate entities, which take the boat out independently of each other, share a boat sometimes it is necessary to add multiple skippers to a boat.Â
If each skipper uses Nebo, your Monthly Report will have a section for each skipper, showing their hours, distance traveled etc.
In order for Nebo to correctly report on shared usage, itâs important that your vessel is âcreatedâ in Nebo only once. Additional skippers can then be registered to that boat.
Let us presume you have added the vessel to Nebo, and that you now want to add a new skipper.
- First, ask the new skipper to create an account in Nebo (if they do not have one already) but to skip the boat registration step.
- When they have done that, you must go to My Locker > Boats
- You will see your boat in the list. If you donât, you can add your boat by tapping + ADD BOAT
- To add the additional skipper, tap on your boat name, scroll down until you see MANAGE SKIPPERS
- Tap MANAGE SKIPPERS
- Next, type into the search bar to find the nebo community members you want to add as skippers.
- Tap the circle beside their names to select them
- Tap CONFIRM USERS
That is it. When the new skipper restarts Nebo, they will be able to start a voyage using your boat, and you will both receive a monthly report detailing boat usage.
Standby and Underway
There are several reasons your boat may not be visible on the map, or not showing up in nebo search results.
NOTE:Â these points do not apply to boats with a nebolink device. Nebolink boats will normally always show on the map.
- If you have created a new boat, you will not appear on the map until you have completed a voyage that ends on water
- If your last voyage ended on land you wil be removed from the map
- If your last voyage was completed more that 30 days ago, you will be removed from the map. This is to prevent unused boats from pollutiing the map.
To see details of other boats on Nebo:
- Go to Standby
- Tap on any boat icon to see more details
- From here you can see the boat name, skippers name and if the boat is underway etc
- Also displayed are basic boat details and the last time their position was updated on Nebo
- You can also send the boat a private message
PLEASE NOTE: you will not see boat details if the boatâs skipper has set their profile to Private and you are not their Nebo Friend.
Once you have started a voyage, the âStandbyâ screen becomes the âUnderwayâ screen.
When underway, your boat icon will change from a white dot to a blue boat.
When you are underway, you will no longer see the name tag and burgee on your boat. But all others in the community will still see this info (if you have not chosen the Private setting).

- Click on any boat icon.
- From here you can see the boat name, skipperâs name and if the boat is underway, on a mooring etc.
- Also displayed are basic boat details and the last time their position was updated on Nebo.
- You can also send the boat a private message.
Note that you will not see boat or skipper details if the skipper has chosen to keep them Private.
Use the magnify glass icon at the lower right of the Standby screen to search for boats or Nebo community members.
The Nebo Feed is where information you share gets posted. Here is how to view Neboâs Feed.
- Click on Feed
- Here you can scroll through all of your and your Nebo friendsâ posts.
- You can like and / or leave a comment on these posts.
- Your voyages and photos are only shared with Nebo users youâve specifically âfriendedâ. Your posts do not get shared to their friends, unless they are also your friend.
- You can also decide not to share particular voyages and photos at any time.
- You can share a comment, voyage or photo.
- Click on Feed
- Tap in the field at the top that says âShare your experienceâŠâ
- Here you can simply type in some text or add a photo, or both.
- To add a photo, tap ADD PHOTO, choose Camera or Gallery. If you choose Camera the camera app will open. You can take a new photo or choose one from the gallery.
- Tap SHARE POST
You may not want all your nebo friends to see a photo that you are saving to a log.
To add a photo while underway and not add it to Feed, on the voyage details card at top of the screen:
- Tap on the three vertical dots
- Tap either âCameraâ or âGalleryâ
- Either take a photo or select one from the gallery
- Uncheck the checkbox for âShare on feedâ
This will still include the photo in your log and the voyage summary PDF that is emailed to you, but the photo will not show up to your friends in Feed.
If you have saved a photo or a log with the âShare to Feedâ function ON but now want to remove this from the feed, follow these steps to remove a log or photo you have already shared to Feed:
- Go to My Locker > Logs
- Scroll to the Photo or Log you wish to remove/hide from the Feed.
- Tap the three vertical dots
- Tap âHideâ. This will remove the visibility of this log or photo from the Feed. You will still have this log or photo stored in your âMy Logsâ but it will no longer be visible on the Nebo feed (ie: to anyone you have âfriendedâ on Nebo).
Â
PLEASE NOTE, if the item is a photo you also have the option to delete it:
- Tap âDeleteâ this will remove the photo completely from nebo
To like or comment on your friendsâ voyages:
- Click on Feed from the bottom menu
- To like or comment on your friendsâ voyages, photos or posts, scroll to the relevant item and tap the like icon to like, or tap on the comment link to write a comment.
Neboâs Feed is where information you share gets posted. When you save a voyage it will automatically be posted to the Nebo feed (unless you turn this function OFF). Here is how to turn this function off to hide your logs and photos from the Nebo feed:
- When you are underway and want to finish your voyage, tap STOP VOYAGE
- At the top of the screen you will see a voyage status card
- Uncheck the âAdd this voyage to feedâ checkbox
To not post your photo to Feed see the FAQ: How to take a photo & save it but not share it to the Nebo Feed.
PLEASE NOTE: your voyages and photos are only shared with Nebo users youâve specifically âfriendedâ. Your posts do not get shared to their friends, unless they are also your friends.
Deleting a voyage is helpful when you have run some âtestâ voyages or if you simply do not want to keep a particular voyage log for any reason.
To delete a voyage, go to:
- My Locker > Logs
- Tap the voyage you would like to delete, this will bring up details of that voyage.
- At the top right, tap the trash can icon
- Tap DELETE
If you no longer want to interact with another Nebo user you can unfriend them.
- Go to Feed > FriendsÂ
- You will see a list of your Friends, tap on the three horizontal dots
- Tap on the âRemove from friendsâ option
This person will not know you have unfriended them.
It is not possible to remove or hide other peopleâs individual voyages, photos or posts from Feed, but it is possible to remove a person from your friends list and therefore no longer see items in the Feed from them.
To unfriend someone see the FAQ: How to unfriend someone in Nebo
