Lengthening Battery Life
Like any GPS tracking app, Nebo can drain your battery.
If your boat has charging facilities, it’s best to keep your device on charge whenever possible.
There are a couple of things you can do to get the most out of your battery when underway:
- 1. Switch on ‘Battery Save Mode’ – Nebo’s ‘Battery Saving Mode’ reduces the frequency with which Nebo ‘checks in’.
Simply go to: Other > Settings > Battery saving mode > Toggle on Battery saving mode
NOTE: When this mode is enabled, your boat’s location won’t update as often on other Nebo user’s screens.
- 2. Turn your screen off
We also recommend that you switch your screen off when you’re not interacting with Nebo. We’ve found the screen can be a power guzzler, so whenever possible, keep it turned off.

We are excited to announce that the Nebo App has now been rolled out for Android mobile users.

New Nebo Update Available
We recently upgraded Nebo to cater for iOS 11, Apple’s newest operating system for iPhone and iPad.
Since then, we’ve identified a problem when adding a photo from the device gallery (thanks to David in Canada for helping us track this down!).
There’s a new version on the store that fixes the issue, so please make sure to update your Nebo App before your next voyage. It’s free and quick and easy to do, simply click on your App Store and choose “Updates” from the bottom menu, locate Nebo and choose UPDATE. Once installed you will be set to go.

Saratoga’s Latest Voyage
Nebo’s founder, Stephen Winter, is an avid boater who takes every opportunity to enjoy his beautiful timber cruiser Saratoga on the Swan River in Perth. It is a great way for Stephen to continually test Nebo and introduce new features to help make every boaters life easier.
Stephen originally created Nebo to alleviate the time consuming and tedious task of logging his boating adventures. This clever free app is now so much more! While Nebo provides obvious time-saving benefits to boaters, Nebo also helps family and friends follow the cruising adventures of loved ones, facilitates accurate expense distributions for shared boats and syndicate management companies, allows the monitoring of yacht delivery progress, and assists charter companies and regatta organisers with daily tracking of their fleet.
Nebo also makes it easier to interact with other boaters on the water, enabling cruisers to share local information, request assistance, send a message to an individual boat or flotilla, and stay in touch with new friends long after the voyage is over.
Below is an outline of Saratoga’s latest journey. This is the style of PDF report that is automatically generated and emailed to Nebo users after each days boating. Monthly reports are also auto-generated giving you an overall summary of your boating adventures. This is a superb way to keep a log which is not only a great way to preserve your personal memories but also a handy account of your boats movements should you ever decide to sell your vessel.

Nebo goes global one month after launch!
It’s one month since we launched Nebo, and take-up by the global boating community has exceeded even our expectations.
Skippers are logging voyages in Europe, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and even India.
Since launch, Nebo has also been active in charter fleets, and we’ve added thousands of geofences, (virtual boundaries), around every significant maritime feature that we can. Find out more about our geofencing here.

Who’s got your back?
We all know to take sensible precautions when we’re out at sea. That includes logging in with the Coast Guard or Sea Rescue, and letting family or friends know our plans.
Nebo has a fantastic feature that can help as well. We call it TrackMe.
You can send anyone a TrackMe link via SMS, email, WhatsApp, Messenger (whatever!). When they click the link, they’ll see a map showing your location, status, and the latest weather.
They don’t even need to have installed Nebo!
Make TrackMe a component of your normal safety routine, enjoy safer boating and let those stuck onshore know you’re OK.

Thank you Sunsail!
During the last four months, guests on Sunsail flotillas have been helping test Nebo in the beautiful Croatian islands, and more recently in Mallorca. Sunsail’s help has been invaluable, as has their belief that Nebo offers guests a great way to interact on the water, and provides a fantastic log of their adventures.
Guests simply download Nebo, scan a QR code onboard their vessel, and cast-off!
Sunsail guests are loving how easy Nebo is to use, and they particularly like the automated daily log which includes their track, weather conditions and any photos they’ve taken along the way. They’re also posting updates to their social media accounts via Nebo, keeping friends and families both up-to-date and envious.

How does Nebo automatically log my voyages?
One of the most common questions we’re asked is “How does Nebo produce those very detailed log entries while I’m underway?” Here’s an insight into the smarts operating behind the scenes.
Say you’re boating on Sydney Harbour, Australia. Your log might look like this:
- 08:36 Departed Rose Bay Marina
- 08:54 Passed 349m north of Clark Island
- 09:17 Passed 123m north of Fort Denison
- 09:48 Passed 275m north of Sydney Opera House
- 09:57 passed under Sydney Harbour Bridge
- 10:12 stopped voyage at Lavender Bay
Nebo does all of this automatically, and while it may seem like magic, it isn’t. It’s actually a combination of smart technology and a lot of hard work.
Here at Nebo we’re building the world’s largest and most accurate database of maritime geofences. That means we’re constructing ‘virtual boundaries’ around every significant maritime feature that we can.

For example, we’ve constructed geofences for around 2000 features in Florida, including marinas, bays and bridges. In Croatia, we’ve added around 1500. We’ve geofenced much of the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, and we’re adding more daily.
Nebo detects when your boat crosses a geofence boundary, and adds a log entry.
If we haven’t covered your region, you’ll still receive an automated log with your track, the weather and any photos you’ve taken.
